Nicholas Morosoff 1899-1994

Born 24 July, 1899 in Moscow, Russia to Jean Ivan Morosoff & Maria Akatova. 

1912/13‑1917/18 

* Attends Moscow School of Graphic Arts.  

* At 16‑17 years of age Morosoff was exposed to the private collections Schukin and Morosov.

* Moscow Academy of Fine Art, Robert Falk, instructor.

1920/22

* Studies with Kandinsky at Vchutemas and at the Academy meets his future wife, VERA MASLENNIKOVA, b. 8/17/99 to Mikhail Maslennikova & Leontina Mikine.

* Moscow museums acquired work of Vera Maslennikova.

* Achieves master printer level and teaches graphic arts, etching  and engraving at The First Model Print School, Moscow.       

* Designs two new Cyrillic type faces for the Bolsheviks and makes plans to leave Russia.

1925          

* Leaves Moscow with Vera to escape political oppression, never to return.

* Spends two years in Ravenna, Italy and spends time in several other major cities to study Byzantine mosaics.

 * The Morosoffs marry on 26 October 1925.

1927            

* II Exposizione  Internazionale Dell' Incisione Moderna, Florence.

* The Morosoffs are made honorary Italian citizens.

1931              

* Left Italy for Paris (47 rue de l'Arsenal)

1932              

* Salon d' Automne, Paris  (Moved to 20 rue Durantin)

1935             

* XIII Salon des Tuileries, Paris  (Moved to 46 place Jules Ferry, Montrouge)

* Morosoffs move to New York City, meet Charles & Ingrid Voss.

 1969

* Exhibition at Center Art Gallery,  49 W 57 St. NYC

* Exhibition at Ahda Artzt Gallery, 142 W 57 St. NYC

 1972    

* Moves to St Petersburg, Florida & Maintains Studio in NYC.

 1977

* Left NYC studio to live in Florida full‑time.

* Exhibits in San Francisco.

 1979‑91

* Exhibits in one‑man shows and group exhibitions at Beaux Arts Center, Pinellas Park, Florida.

* Vera dies of severe osteoporosis 9 March 91 and Morosoff's  health declines.

 1992   

* Recent Paintings: Exhibition at Brad Cooper Gallery, Tampa.

* Video document begins, Morosoff speaking on Modern Art.

 1993   

* Continues to paint through June, he weakens and moves to Ybor City in Tampa, Florida.

 Video taping continues as document in review of  his life's work.

 1994

* Spends the rest of his days in the Ybor City Historic district, his death occurs in his sleep on 20 March.
