DANIEL CHARLES WIGLEY

Dan Wigley has a Ph.D. in philosophy and an MFA in painting. He completed his art studies at USF under a Graduate Council Fellowship. In the mid 80’s, his paintings were included in two USF Student Art Exhibitions, but he soon left painting for digital art. Wigley began experimenting with digital art in 1985, and the Brad Cooper Gallery exhibited his digital work in 1987. Wigley’s work was then included in a USF sponsored group digital art exhibition that traveled the state of Florida. Barnett Bank purchased one of his digital works for their collection. Beginning in 1990, Wigley set art aside to pursue a degree in philosophy. But he continued to experiment with digital imagery.

During the 90’s, he taught classes in the Philosophy department at USF, including Introduction to Philosophy, Critical Thinking, and Formal Logic. He has four publications in Environmental Ethics including a chapter in Faces of Environmental Racism, edited by Laura Westra and Peter S. Wenz (Lanham, MD: Roman & Littlefield, 1995). From 1998 to 2002, Wigley worked as a project coordinator for grants (totaling over $500,000) dealing with workforce development and dropout prevention for the Brevard county public school system. Wigley is currently a temporarily certified Florida K-12 teacher in Art. Encouraged by advances in digital technology, he has returned to producing digital artwork and is now pursuing a career as a professional artist.
