SUSAN SCHWALB

Susan Schwalb is one of the leading figures in the revival of the ancient technique of metalpoint drawing. In her recent Palimpsest Series she has developed a style which challenges all the traditional concepts.

Relatively intimate in scale, these works juxtapose a variety of metals -  gold, brass, copper, platinum, pewter, bronze, aluminum and silver - to create soft shifts of tone and color. The shimmer of light on the surface is quite unlike any of the usual effects of metalpoint.

Her works are included in many public collections, such as The Brooklyn Museum, NY; The British Museum, London; The Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University; The Rose Art Museum, Brandeis University; The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; The Museum of Fine Arts/Houston, Texas; Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven; Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco; Museum of Art/Rhode Island School of Design; National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington DC; The Israel Museum, Jerusalem; Norton Museum of Art, West Palm Beach; B'nai B'rith Klutznick National Museum, Washington DC; Yeshiva University Museum, NYC and such corporate collections as Fidelity Investments, Boston; Chase Manhattan Bank, NY; Beth Israel Hospital, Boston and Sonesta International Hotels Corp., Boston.
