NICHOLAS MOROSOFF

painting & drawing 1925-1990

MAY 12   -  JUNE 30 ,  2007

Brad Cooper Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition by Russian-American artist Nicholas Morosoff (b.1899, Moscow – d.1994, Florida).   The works will be on view from May 12 through June 30, 2007.    An opening will be held Saturday evening,  May 12, from 7 to 9pm.  Brad Cooper Gallery is located at 1712 E. 7th Ave in YBOR CITY.  Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 11am until 5pm.  The opening is free and open to the public.

In 1925, led by the utopian ideas of the October Revolution, Nicolas Morosoff (1899-1994) escaped the shadow of Stalin, which fell across the hopes of the creative spirit in Russia.  Nicolas and his wife, Vera Maslennikova (1899-1992), in pursuit of their artistic freedom, left Russia and never returned.

Included in the exhibition are paintings and drawings which reveal the basis and unfolding of the life work of the Moscow born artist.  Selections, from early figure studies to portraits, landscapes and interiors, trace the chronology of his work and establish the influences on his style and subject.

The intention of this exhibit is to provide historical context to both Nicolas Morosoff and his work while exploring the artistic activity of an early 20th century painter.
