JOHN CAPUTO
Born 1951, Bridgeport, CT
John Caputo began his formal training in art at Broward Community College in 1969, where he received a Full Art Scholarship.  He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of South Florida, taking advantage of the opportunity to engage notable artists in discussion as they created print editions at Graphicstudio. 


From 1974-1976 he was a Graduate Teaching Assistant in Drawing and Printmaking at the University of Florida, working primarily with Ken Kerslake and Todd Walker in Photo-Printmaking, and Hiram Williams in Painting.  He received his MFA in Printmaking in 1976.

 

Mr. Caputo began his full-time teaching career at Russell Sage College in Troy, NY in 1977, and has taught at The University of North Alabama, The University of Tampa, The University of Southern Maine, The University of South Carolina at Spartanburg, and Siena College, where he is presently Visiting Assistant Professor in Creative Arts. 

 

He has also been a College Gallery Director/Curator at three of these institutions, including his present position at Siena College in suburban Albany, New York.

 

John Caputo’s work has been exhibited regionally, nationally, and internationally in over 50 juried and invitational exhibitions including such venues as the Davidson National Print Exhibition, the Siggraph National Computer Graphics Exhibition and the Asheville Art Museum.  He served as Artist in Residence in the Skidmore College Summer Six Program, and was the recipient of a major project grant from the South Carolina Arts Commission and the USC-System.  Mr. Caputo’s work is included in such collections as Pratt Institute, Pyramid Atlantic Center for Printmaking and the Minnesota Center for the Book Arts.  He has been a frequent contributor to the Southeastern College Art Conference and a participant in Southern Graphics.
