Brad Cooper Gallery is pleased to welcome JOHN CAPUTO back to Tampa for a solo exhibition, October 7 through November 25, 2006. From 1987-89, John Caputo was an instructor at the University of Tampa teaching design, painting and drawing. He studied art and art education at U.S.F. and received MFA from University of Florida in Gainesville in 1976. Currently, he lives just outside Albany, New York and is curator at the Yates Gallery, Siena College and teaches painting, drawing and photography in College’s art department. Caputo’s work was first shown at Brad Cooper Gallery in 1990.

Trained as a printmaker, the artist's primary media since 1983 shifted to painting, drawing and mixed media. The paintings in this exhibition center around dimensions inherent in the human condition and are expressed in an overlay of imagery, paint and mark-making.  These paintings convey how Caputo explores the process of creativity and expression, and how he derives his imagery from the fabric of our culture. Remnants of past memories appear and disappear through his clever technical ability to manipulate surfaces and integrate various ritual elements. He effortlessly weaves these iconic elements into his pictures.
