ARTIST STATEMENT

Chalet Zell

The concept of using many different perspectives to formulate one idea or opinion is the main focus of my artwork.  I feel it is essential to draw from many personal past experiences in order to enrich my understanding of the present. My paintings and sculptures are typically comprised of sectioned areas with juxtaposed images. 

I use mixed media collage in some of my work, and typically pair iconic symbols that have both literal and implied meaning with pattern work. I compose these elements to create a symbolic portrait of the subject. This results in a fractured look that houses multiple images all working together to suggest the one concept that is being explored.
