I am fascinated, repelled, and comforted by our pervasive suburban infrastructure. I’ve been regularly documenting the environment of my urban / suburban life, taking digital photographs by the hundreds. It’s the world seen from the inside of a car: the cookie cutter strip-centers and the jumble of signs that line the streets, the power and communication networks entangled overhead. My recent work explores this fertile environment. I merge my memory of a specific moment with the digital representation of that moment. The painting takes shape as a hybrid, not quite any-place, not quite no-place. I want to create an experience that is intimate because we’ve been there, but anonymous because it is everywhere.
