Born and raised in Springfield, Missouri, Shelby has spent all of his twenty-five years in the Midwest.  In 2003 he received his BFA from Washington University School of Fine Art in St. Louis, where he studied printmaking and drawing as a Kenneth E. Hudson Scholar.  The same year, he accepted a fellowship to attend Southern Illinois University in Carbondale to seek his MFA in painting, printmaking and drawing.  Since 2004, Shelby has taught drawing courses for the School of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University while continuing to develop his own work.  Shelby has actively exhibited in shows throughout the St. Louis and southern Illinois regions and has been the recipient of the Belle Cramer Printmaking Award, and exhibition and travel grants from both universities.  He will present his solo MFA thesis exhibition in June and will graduate in August.  Shelby hopes to continue teaching at the collegiate level and is seeking available positions for fall 2006 and 2007.
