Born and raised in Springfield, Missouri, Shelby
has spent all of his twenty-five years in the Midwest. In 2003 he
received his BFA from Washington University School of Fine Art in St.
Louis, where he studied printmaking and drawing as a Kenneth E. Hudson
Scholar. The same year, he accepted a fellowship to attend Southern
Illinois University in Carbondale to seek his MFA in painting, printmaking
and drawing. Since 2004, Shelby has taught drawing courses for the School
of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University while continuing to
develop his own work. Shelby has actively exhibited in shows throughout
the St. Louis and southern Illinois regions and has been the recipient of
the Belle Cramer Printmaking Award, and exhibition and travel grants from
both universities. He will present his solo MFA thesis exhibition in June
and will graduate in August. Shelby hopes to continue teaching at the
collegiate level and is seeking available positions for fall 2006 and
2007.
