Oates has an upcoming solo show at Art4Love Gallery in New York City and has been part of group show in 2006 at About Glamour Gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Flux Factory in Long Island City and Chelsea, Eye Level Gallery in Halifax, Canada and AJIS Gallery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Oates has photographed on residencies in Canada, Taiwan, Oregon, Vermont, Illinois and in the summer of 2006 Oates will be photographing in Helsinki and in Turku, Finland.
Oates has exhibited in numerous venues including PS122, Open Studio Gallery, The Islip Art Museum, and The Philadelphia University of the Arts, Flux Factory, Bard College Fisher Art Gallery, The Knitting Factory, Metaphor Contemporary Art, Sara Nightingale Gallery, A Taste of Art Gallery and Real Art Ways. Her works on paper are in numerous private and public collections including the Nevada Museum of Art¹s Altered Landscape Collection, the National Museum for Women in the Arts, The New York Public Library, The Joan Flasch Collection at the Chicago School of the Art Institute, MoMA, Kohler Museum Art Library, Yale University, British Museum, Victoria & Albert, Walker Art Center, Brooklyn Museum of Art and the Rhode Island School of Design. In 2005-06, Oates was part of group shows in New York City at The Kaufmann Arcade, Kiana Malekzadeh Gallery, The NYC Affordable Art Fair, NURTUREart Gallery and A Taste of Art Gallery. In 2005, Oates was part of group shows nationally and internationally at The Cincinnati Contemporary Art Center in Ohio, The Elaine J. Jacobs Gallery at Wayne State University in Michigan, Fraser Art Gallery in Maryland, Picture House Centre for Photography & The University College of Northampton Art Gallery in England. Oates has a B.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design, a M.F.A from The School of the Art Institute in Chicago and is a Fulbright Fellow for graduate study at The Edinburgh College of Art in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Oates’s photography has been featured in several movies including “The Forgotten” staring Julianne Moore and most recently in “Little Children” staring Kate Winslet and Jennifer Connelly and directed by Todd Field. Her work is in the collection of actress Julianne Moore. Oates will soon have her work featured in “Perfect Strangers” staring Halle Berry and Bruce Willis.
Oates is an independent curator who has organized show in NYC at The Organization of Independent Artists, NURTUREart, Non-Profit,Inc, chashama and Artists Space. Oates has organized shows in the Chicago area for The Peace Museum, Randolph Street Gallery and The Noyes Cultural Arts Center. Oates recently organized a two part series of exhibitions called “Dark Nature: 1 & 2” at a satellite space in DUMBO, Brooklyn at 111 Front Street Galleries and the other with Chashama Gallery in Time Square. Oates is currently organizing “The Pop Art Show” at the Kaufmann Arcade and “Reconstruction” at Chashama Gallery both in New York City. In addition, Oates writes for NY Arts Magazine and AC: Collaborative On-line Arts Journal both based in NYC |
