ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Chris McCauley

I received my undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Arts, from Columbia College in Chicago (where I grew up) in 1995. I then spent a year at the Art Institute of Chicago working on my Post Baccalaureate Studio Certificate and participating in a mentorship program at Artemesia Gallery. I was accepted into the painting department at Cranbrook Academy of Art (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan) in 1996 and received my MFA in 1998.

Since that time I have been painting portraits and landscapes. I have also been teaching painting and cultural theory at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit and at Madonna University in Dearborn Michigan. Until their very recent demise I was represented by Batista Gallery in Ferndale, Michigan.

In 2002 I was featured in a show of notable emerging artists in the Detroit Area at the Meadowbrook Gallery of Art at Oakland University in Rochester Hills, just outside Detroit. In 2003 I was awarded the Michigan Council for Cultural Affairs Creative Artist’s Grant. In 2005 I was a visiting artist to the Washington Street Gallery in Ann Arbor Michigan where I participated in six of their exhibitions that year.

During the years since my MFA experience I have been exhibiting and selling my work in the Detroit area. I have worked on commission through consultants as well as through Batista Gallery in Ferndale Michigan Gallery.
