G. C. WILLIAMS
STILL LIFE PAINTING

JULY 16 - AUGUST 27, 2005

Brad Cooper Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition (Gallery I) titled  “STILL LIFE PAINTING”  by G.C. WILLIAMS, opening on July 16, 2005.   This exhibition is the result of Williams’ work being selected BEST of Show for the painting category in the INTERNATIONAL BIENNIAL JURIED EXHIBITION held at Brad Cooper Gallery, July of 2004.   The works of art will be on view July 16 - August  27, 2005.  

As a self taught artist painting for several years, she was torn between her lifelong love of making and studying art.  She chose art history as her major at Wheaton College and received a B.A. in 1998.  Drawing on a rich appreciation and knowledge of the Northern European still life masters, she began exploring a still life model that would strive to be as relevant to modern society today as those painters were to their culture hundreds of years ago.  Brad Cooper Gallery is excited to present G.C. Williams in her first solo exhibition.

“My work is about the exploration of beauty in the commonplace--the things we live with everyday but fail to notice. There is a redemptive quality to seeing value in things despite their flaws—indeed, because of their flaws. Therefore, those things that look imperfect feel more real, more beautiful, because there is no pretense.  In the 17^th century, still life painters included in their works objects that remind of the fleeting quality of life, and of beauty. The paintings were enjoyed for their aesthetics but posed a constant reminder that this world is temporal. They perfected the use of symbols as narrative while simultaneously drawing attention to ideas of beauty, perfection, and their opposites.  I strive to follow in these ideological footsteps, exploring timeless objects through a contemporary lens.”

The Brad Cooper Gallery is located at 1712 E 7^th Ave in YBOR CITY, and Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 11am until 5pm. (Please call 813-248-6098 for additional evening and weekend hours.)
