Curtis Weatherall’s (b. 1968, Jackson, Mississippi) work is best described as material abstraction. He concerns himself with the representation of the natural and industrialized world through the use of mixed mediums. He received his B.F.A. at the University of Mississippi in Oxford and continued his studies at Bradley University in Peoria, IL where he earned an M.F.A. Weatherall’s work has been widely exhibited in major shows throughout the U.S. and he has been the recipient of many awards. His resume includes a number of exhibits at notable institutes and galleries as the Tampa Museum of Art, Tampa, Florida; Gallery 10, Washington, D.C.; Elizabeth Rice Fine Art, Sarasota, Florida; Brad Cooper Gallery, Tampa, Florida; Allyn Gallup Contemporary Art, Sarasota, Florida; Grounds for Sculpture, Hamilton, New Jersey; and the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Weatherall’s work hangs in such permanent collections as the Bluff View Art District in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was recently commissioned to design the Lifetime Achievement Award for the International Sculpture Center. |
