I work from life when ever possible in hope of achieving a true representation of my subjects.  I want all of my paintings to be specific, while still alluding to abstract and intellectual possibilities.  I have been influenced deeply by the classical tradition, and works by such masters as Rembrandt, Vermeer and Caravaggio.  I strive to create visual tension in all of my pieces whether through expression, lighting, or the relationships of the subjects and/or objects in my paintings.

Over the last year I have been working on a series of self portraits documenting my private self, and some of the emotional struggles I have been facing.  “Expectations” was the beginning of this series and was to express my need to free myself from the feeling that I needed to be a specific type of man (i.e. that I needed to have a “real job” and lead the life of your typical working man).  “Depression” was the next piece in this series and came after the realization that all of my angst and anger with my current situations came from being locked in a frame of mind of constant self torture and psychological isolation.  So far there have been two more entries into this series, “Self Portrait,” and “Reaching.”  These were used to confront the man that I have become and express my need to find the answers necessary to reach the next stage in my life.  This series has recently branched out, and will begin to document my family life as well as different sectors of society.
