RICHARD RYAN

For the past ten years I have been interested in photogrammetry, (the science of measuring objects in photographs) spatial analysis and mapping.  Every image can be thought of as a map, and the objects in it measured.  Projected geometry and projected imagery are the two main systems of image representation that I employ.

The projected mapping of 2D vectorized raster images onto the 3D geometry of any object different than the source transforms it into a newly mapped space which has never been seen before.  I work with photography, and multiple computer programs in order to achieve the transinformation results I seek.  I use applications in ways they were not intended to be used.  At times my work may appear abstract, but the imagery and starting point for my work is often the common objects, familiar people and places of my environment.  My work is printed by a large format digital printer.  Iris and the new Giclee printers use archival inks and paper to produce museum quality prints.  Each image requires a number of proofs before the intended results are achieved.
