Armin Mühsam was born Dec. 29, 1968 in Romania, moved to Germany in 1977, and settled in Munich. After completing his undergraduate studies there, Armin continued his art education at Montana State University, earning his Master of Fine Arts in 1997. In 2000, Armin relocated to the United States, where he is currently teaching painting and drawing at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. He has been exhibiting widely in the United States and Europe. “My work focuses on the changing and changed landscape, particularly the face of nature as altered by human intervention. I have come to the conclusion that technology writes or draws into a landscape just like an artist would draw on a sheet of paper – through and with technology forms are assembled and manipulated to compose a kind of environment that suits man’s needs. Paradoxically, however, we don’t appear to notice this. Because technology envelops us so thoroughly we accept it as reality. My paintings attempt to visualize this paradox. They attempt to seduce the viewer into appreciating the beauty of utilitarian, technological hardware and architecture. These paintings are of completely and deliberately artificial situations, containing basic parts and components drawn from a pool of man-made elements, much like props on a stage.” |
