MARILEE MAST

I Speak in Pictures; it is a universal way of talking and can transcend language barriers. It is one of the oldest forms of communication dating back to the cavemen carving out images on ancient walls. My work is very personal to me, it is my soul undressed in front of the world for all to see. It speaks of the awakening of my spirit and the struggle of my being to survive living in this damaged physical body. I put on a face, a mask if you will, to the world, one of beauty and merry smiles but behind the cupboard door there is a great struggle for survival, to remain positive in spite of the pain.

I In my work there is a lot of energy, I put a great deal of thought, passion and energy into my work. What I hope to get in return is causing the viewer to feel. To become a feeling, sensitive person rather than to be desensitized as so many people are in today’s world. To cry is better than to not feel at all. My work is a reflection of the beauty I see all around me. It amazes me how many wondrous things there are in this world. There is the beauty of joy and of sadness, of innocence and of sin, laughter and tears. I’ve found that the two are inseparable, positive and negative and they are quite subjectable at that. So for me I have chosen to search out all that is beautiful, in all its forms.
