“Sit tibi terra levis”

“May the earth be light upon you”

-an ancient Roman tombstone inscription

Art is the language of the human spirit; it is our shared history, culture, and experience.  I have been compelled to draw and paint from a very young age, however, my interest in the arts, history and the humanities became fully focused in college.  As an artist, I have learned that sharing our experiences and ideas is essential to be fully engaged in the world.

In the creation of my work, and in the final product, I explore color, space, and history.  The color field paintings depict ethereal landscapes using color and surface texture to recreate a primordial realm devoid of the conventional icons. The landscapes are created from imagination rather than through direct observation. I do not engage nature and reduce it to abstraction, but draw from a wide forum of ideas to construct my images. These paintings are rationally analyzed twilights taken from the earth’s memory.  They are meant to rediscover its origins and to focus on its internal experience.  The earth’s stream of consciousness reveals its existential state and shares the intimacy of its pleasure and melancholy.
