ARTIST STATEMENT

ARNOR BIELTVEDT

The painting “Sailboat Meditations” which found its way into this reputable exhibition is a part of a series of work I named simply “Nature”.  Whatever I have chosen to focus on in my work, the last decade or so, abstract faces, landscapes, still lifes, nonobjective compositions, I always come back to the beginning of it all, the exploration of the raw pulse of nature, the raw pulse of life.  That is what I seek in all my work today, whatever the excuse I find for painting.

My painting is about representing/conserving life in a lively, moving way.  Color and forms have the purpose of moving, healing and inspiring the viewer, encouraging new and exciting thoughts and insights, and appreciation for Nature and Life.  Without Nature there is no Life, no purpose, no history, no Art, nothing…..and still we tend to forget her and just acknowledge her somewhere in the background, even subordinate to the material world.  My Nature series aims to synchronize our heartbeats with that of Nature. Bring her into the foreground again.  The kind “fight” or “dance” you see in my work is one which finds compromises between the internal and external forces in both nature and the artist.
